Thank you Jenni, for sharing so thoughts so beautifully on this event. You put into words how so many of us feel regarding this new joy event. I really hope Debbie, Cindy, Nathan, Chyler and or Angelo sees your post and responds to it. The things brought up here jeez to be addressed on behalf of those in this community with disabilities and low income. There were missteps here and there’s room for improvement. I do hope by starting a conversation about these issues lead to positive change at future events. At the end of the day we all want CC to be successful and want what’s best for them. Why some criticism and feedback can go along way to better things for future events. I do hope those going have a good time, but I also feel like this is something the CC teams needs to address sooner than later.

    Financial Ignorance?
Attn: Debbie Roth, Cindy Woodford, Nathan West, Chyler West.

    Hello,

I have been made aware, that there is a post that discusses finances – specifically the affordability of this New Joy trip. When this was advertised, it was supposed to be a “this event is going to be for everyone”. This is such a lovely thought, but not one based on the reality that some members lives.
It concerns me greatly, that many people are unable to go. Unable to enjoy this event, due to significant financial issues. Issues that exist for these people, on a daily and monthly basis. To think that a “payment plan” will fix everything, shows me that there is some severe lack of insight happening.
There are disabled people that live on a budget, that many couldn’t even imagine surviving on. That there only ‘joy’, comes from their enjoyment of this website. As well, as the occasional live from Cindy, Nathan and Chyler. What breaks my heart, is that they are left out of these events. As well as other events, that cost money. Money that is the difference if they eat or not. To buy their medication or not..or even pay or their membership to this website.
To me, true inclusivity includes all people. Regardless of their colour, race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, or financial background. That all people, have the pleasure of experiencing “new joy”. To be able to afford a membership, to be able to meet the core team of CC, to be able to purchase an item from merchandise…or be able to experience this new joy event.
Having the first event on the west coast, is a great test run. To be able to see what needs to change, what can be done better, and what was a success. My first thought of what can be done better..that can be improved is the financial aspect. It is unfair, to make so many events unattainable for so many. It leaves many feeling they are not worth meeting, or not worth wasting CC expenses on. They might be left feeling insignificant or just unwanted.
I realize that these expenses cost money. Money to reserve rooms, pay for food and just general expenses. However, in the interest of many members that are left out (once again) from enjoying an event. Create Change, needs to create change for everyone. Not just those that can put out the $$$.
