So today’s TueDoList talked about ‘Finding Our Way’ and asked for a photo or drawing about what family looks like to you.
Here is a picture of my family: myself, my parents, my sister and her wife, and my step-nephew.
I never could have imagined what kind of family I would have as I got older. So when it turned out that my sister had a girlfriend, it felt like the most normal thing in the world. No weirdness. It came as a slight shock to my parents, but overall they have accepted my sister’s significant other (she’s now her wife and they’ve been married for 3 years, but have known each other for 5 or 6).
I’m pretty lucky to have the family I do. My parents have been nothing, but loving, and accepting of my sister, her family, and myself (since they have two gay daughters), and they have been nothing but supportive during my own trials.
My sister had her trials in life to the point where we were afraid she wouldn’t survive (she was severely into drugs and alcohol), but once things got better for her our personal relationship got even stronger.
I have a pretty good relationship with my sister-in-law as well. I’m lucky that we actually get along and like each other. She’s been there for me so many times as well.
I never take my family for granted and every day I’m grateful for them.
About Me
Ronnie
Shy and quiet reader. Shy and quiet writer.
Aside from being a fangirl, I am an avid reader to the extreme. I converted an old bedroom into a library so much of my time is spent in it. I read a variety of genres but my main genre is Non-Fiction and a sub-genre of Native American studies.
My top 3 books of all time:
- Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson
- Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer
- The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley
