Wow to think this whole time all I needed were a pair of specific earplugs!
I always had hearing problems growing up. Sounds were just always too loud and amplified to the point where noises hurt my ears. From my research and even my therapist said as much, that this was something from my autism.
I tried wearing general earplugs, but they didn’t work. And I never wanted to wear the noise cancelling headphones because of how I would be perceived given how they are stereotyped.
I found some called Loops that I heard people recommend on TikTok (thanks to those people who are autistic that recommended them.) They’re like wireless music earbuds, so they’re unnoticeable. I tried them out for the first time today. And OMG they worked wonders. I could hear noise, but not to the point of agitation and anger.

Ronnie
Shy and quiet reader. Shy and quiet writer.
Aside from being a fangirl, I am an avid reader to the extreme. I converted an old bedroom into a library so much of my time is spent in it. I read a variety of genres but my main genre is Non-Fiction and a sub-genre of Native American studies.
My top 3 books of all time:
- Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson
- Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer
- The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley
