    10 months, 1 week ago

Not sure where to post this, but I figure good news constitutes as mental health.

This weekend my sister and her family invited us on a trip with them to San Antonio and Austin.

The day before however, my sister and her wife shared with my mom and I some fantastic news. My sister is expecting! She’s not that far along yet, so I’m hoping all goes well within this first trimester and beyond. It’s probably way too early to tell anyone, but the excitement is too great, you know?

She and her wife have wanted a child for a couple of years now. This time the IVF finally took. The cool thing is that they used the same donor that was used for my sister’s step-son so he gets to have a half-sibling. My sister will be the one carrying the baby (or is carrying the baby). We are so excited for them.

It was so cute the way they told us. They gave my mom a Mexican sweet bread and underneath that was a baby onsie that said, “fresh out of the oven.” My mom is certainly saving that for sure. I took a picture of it and it’s my plan, up until her delivery to start a scrapbook for them.

Oh I’m going to be an aunt! I can’t wait to start spoiling that kid. I’ll probably start learning all I can about babies and pregnancy and all of that stuff just so I know what to expect and what’s going on too. My sister is more than okay with that.

My sister wants a girl and my sister-in-law wants a boy. It’s the typical thing for us you know, “just as long as their safe and happy” it doesn’t matter what the child is. What would be hilarious is if my sister had twins. Twins run on my dad’s side of the family.

Speaking of my dad, they haven’t told him yet. Since he’s a park ranger they want to wait and surprise him. By the time he arrives back, she’ll be 16 weeks (4 months)!

Again, it’s so early to even say anything. I just can’t hold my excitement. My mom and I still can’t believe this. We’re so happy for her, for them.

    • That is super exciting!! Congrats to your sister and her partner on their newest addition and congrats to the grandparents and aunt! 🙂

      • Thanks. And yes, 5 weeks is too soon to even tell anyone, but sometimes it’s hard not to share. Of course it’s their secret to share and all of that too, but they wouldn’t find out if I told people here so I figure that’s okay.

        • It’s my parents first grandchild so that’s extra special. Given that my sister is due in March and my dad is a park ranger who leaves for his job in May who knows what will happen or if he’ll want to leave (even though my sister lives in a different city.) And then my grandmother, who will be 88 in a few months, will hopefully live long enough to see her second great-grandchild.

    • That’s awesome. My sister will be due in March. Very cool since the child’s brother has his birthday in February and my sister’s birthday is in April.
