    Wow what a unique find:

Yesterday I discovered a podcast called ‘The Neurodiversity Podcast’. I don’t even remember how I came across it tbh. Well there was an episode (ep. 152) that talked about Discovering Dyscalculia. So much of what was said were things I could relate to.

I went to school in the early 90s/early 00s (graduated in 07). I always struggled with math, but no one understood why. No matter how hard I tried I could never get it. I spent time in in-class tutoring sessions, morning and after school tutoring, I even had a couple of private tutors. My teachers would try to help me in class, often spending more time with me than with other students. In college I had a couple of professors simply pass me because I couldn’t do the work. It got to the point where I often cried because I couldn’t understand any of it. (Something that the person in the podcasts mentions about her daughter also).

I have a hard time with basic multiplication and division and addition and even subtraction. I can’t do basic equations for the life of me. I get my numbers mixed up. The way some dyslexics see letters backwards, that’s how I am with numbers. I can’t even read digital clocks correctly.

I had heard about dyscalculia years ago, but it was cool that the podcast talked about it. They even recommended a couple of books which I went ahead and ordered.

Boy, had I known about this disability growing up, it would have saved me a lot of pain.

    • Cool. It mentions two books in it. I looked them up and they seemed pretty good so I ordered them. Hopefully they’ll help me understand it more and help me to see what was wrong with me in the past as well as what was missed by teachers and such.
